The samplers are available in 2 sizes, being for a 48mm x 300mm sample or 40mm x 300mm sample.Ĭan buy multiple sample tubes and plastic end caps for the tubes. It is made from stainless steel only and has either a stainless steel or hard clear plastic inner sample tube. The Core-Tube sampler is for taking undisturbed samples in normal soils. It requires our standard Extension Rods to suit depth required and a Slide Hammer or Anvil to drive the tubes into the soil. It comes with two painted steel C-spanners for undoing the threaded ends. It is available in one size being 50mm OD (42mm sample diameter) by 465mm long (350mm sample) and is made from stainless steel only. The Split-Tube sampler is for taking undisturbed samples in normal soils. Getting the sample out of the tube can be difficult – most soil labs have a machine. These need a Drive Adaptor and our standard Extension Rods to suit depth required, and finally a Slide Hammer or Anvil to drive the tubes into the soil. The tubes are available in 38mm or 45mm or 50mm or 63mm or 76mm and in any length you require but we recommend under 300mm.
It is a thin walled steel or stainless steel tube, 1.6mm or 2.0mm thick, with one end sharpened and rolled and the other end has holes drilled in the sides to screw the tube onto a Drive Adaptor. The Push-Tube sampler is for taking undisturbed samples in normal soils. Stones or gravel can be a problem for all these. The third type is a Core-Tube which is thicker again and houses an inner removable sample tube made from stainless steel or clear hard plastic.Another type is a Split-Tube which is a thicker tube cut in half lengthwise with two threaded ends for the screw-on end pieces that hold it together. The standard type uses a thin walled tube which is driven into the soil and these are often called U-Tubes but we call them Push-Tubes.To obtain soil cores by hand operated equipment it needs to be done in increments so that soil friction is reduced.
